Conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, which is the mucous membrane covering the white of the eye and the inner side of the eyelids.
It usually affects both eyes at the same time but it often occurs in one eye first and spread to the other eye shortly afterwards.
Conjunctivitis is one of the most common eye conditions and not always associated with contact lens wear. Although it is not sight-threatening, it can cause irritation.
